stakeholders
- Course/Discipline Leaders are instrumental in establishing the new portfolio initiative as a new approach to teaching and learning, leading curriculum change and setting new standards of cultural change across the Accounting Department. They are key in establishing academic teaching team buy-in, developing trust amongst course teams, and pulling together resources and support when needed.
- Academic Teaching Teams are at the coal face driving the portfolio approach in their unit. Unit leaders and unit teaching teams are instrumental in partaking in the development and shaping of their student’s learning, professional and employability capabilities. This new portfolio approach offers academic teaching staff a deeper understanding of their students as a learner, thus being able to offer a personalised style of teaching because they will have the opportunity to identify areas of student weaknesses and strengths in the portfolio student learning journey.
- Teaching, Learning and Technology Support Teams are key in helping course leaders in establishing new standards of pedagogies, supporting and building capability and capacity with academic teaching teams at the coal face and supporting students on the receiving end of the portfolio initiative. Support teams were important in supporting staff and student ePortfolio thinking. They stayed up to date with emerging ePortfolio technologies and tools, innovative assessment activities, and the sharing and exchange of learning and experiences of quality portfolio practices in higher education with their internal and external collaborative networks.
- Students Studying in the Units have the opportunity to be more involved in their learning. It enables students to make better connections in their learning process by identifying and selecting learning experiences, and reflecting on their skill development. By sharing, collaborating and presenting the evidence to others, they are able to make sense of their learning achievements and identify areas of self-improvement. This style of learning is different to the current style of learning they are used to and it will make them think differently about their learning. Students have the opportunity to be better prepared for when they are applying for jobs because they would have continuously evidenced their learning throughout their studies and give consideration to examples of their learning and accomplishments and would have documented and reflected on them. Portfolios provide students with a mechanism through which they can showcase their knowledge, skills, experiences and accomplishments that can be used for employability purposes when they graduate.
